The Opening Story
The fifth anniversary shortlist celebrated the extraordinary talent, creativity and diversity found throughout British hospitality.
The nominations for the fifth annual British Restaurant Awards were announced on 8 August 2023.
The shortlist brought together acclaimed restaurants, respected chefs, emerging culinary talent, hospitality teams and dining businesses from across the United Kingdom.
The 2023 nominees represented an extensive range of British dining experiences, from luxury restaurants and innovative new openings to regional favourites, destination bars and international cuisine.
The Best New Restaurant shortlist featured Archway Battersea, Orelle, Bleú Steakhouse, Restaurant 8 by Andrew Sheridan, Manzi’s, Carlotta, Empire Empire, Marble Steakhouse, Fearns, Coco Canary Wharf and Bacchanalia.
The Best Chef shortlist included Gordon Ramsay, Ainsley Harriott, Gino D’Acampo, Aldo Zilli, Rohit Ghai, Tom Brown, Andrew Wong, Ravinder Bhogal, Jeremy Chan, Tommy Banks, Richard Corrigan, Heston Blumenthal and Simon Rimmer.

Five Years of British Restaurant Excellence
The 2023 shortlist marked the fifth edition of the British Restaurant Awards.
Since launching in 2017, the awards had continued to recognise restaurants, chefs, hospitality teams and culinary businesses from across the United Kingdom.
The fifth anniversary shortlist reflected the breadth of British dining, bringing together established names, emerging talent and outstanding regional restaurants.
About the Nomination Process
How the 2023 Shortlist Was Created
The British Restaurant Awards provide members of the public with an opportunity to nominate and vote for their favourite restaurants, chefs and culinary experiences throughout the United Kingdom.
The restaurants, chefs and hospitality businesses receiving the strongest nomination support progressed to the official shortlist and public voting stage.
For the 2023 edition, voting took place through Telephonos and closed on 1 September 2023.
The final winners were announced at the fifth annual British Restaurant Awards ceremony on 5 September 2023.
