The Opening Story
The inaugural British Restaurant Awards gave diners across the country a voice in recognising the restaurants and chefs they valued most.
The nominees for the inaugural British Restaurant Awards were announced on 19 May 2017, bringing together some of the United Kingdom’s most recognised chefs, established restaurants and exciting new dining concepts.
The awards were created to raise the profile of British restaurants worldwide while giving customers an opportunity to nominate and vote for their favourite restaurants, chefs and culinary experiences.
The Best New Restaurant shortlist featured new openings making an impact across the country, including Ritorno, Onodera, Oktopus, Ivy Soho Brasserie, 100 Kensington, Levi Roots Caribbean Smokehouse and Machiya.
Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver, Adam Woolven, Heston Blumenthal, Marco Pierre White, Vineet Bhatia and Levi Roots were shortlisted for Best Chef.
About the Nomination Process
How the 2017 Shortlist Was Created
The British Restaurant Awards were created to provide members of the public with an opportunity to nominate and vote for their favourite restaurants, chefs and culinary services throughout the United Kingdom.
From 20 January until 23 April 2017, readers of Chelsea Monthly, The National Post and Luxury Weekly, together with viewers of VooVix.com, were invited to nominate their favourite restaurants across national, city and regional categories.
The restaurants and individuals receiving the strongest nomination support were selected for the official shortlist before the public voting stage opened.
The final winners, as voted for by the public, were announced during the annual British Restaurant Awards ceremony.
