History of the British Restaurant Awards

The British Restaurant Awards (BRA) is a prestigious annual event that recognizes excellence in the UK's vibrant culinary scene. Since its inception in 2017, the BRA has become one of the most sought-after accolades in the hospitality industry, celebrating the hard work and dedication of the country's top chefs, restaurateurs, and hospitality professionals. The BRA was first launched in 2017 by NNMG Ltd, the group behind some of the biggest awards ceremonies in the world including (World Fashion Awards and the National Film Awards UK amongst many other high profile events). With a passion for food and an intimate knowledge of the UK's dining landscape, the BRA is remit was to create an awards ceremony driven by the consumers that truly reflected the diversity and quality of the country's restaurant scene. The first BRA ceremony took place in London, attracting some of the biggest names in the UK's culinary world. With categories ranging from Best Fine Dining Restaurant to Best Street Food Vendor, the awards celebrated the entire spectrum of dining experiences, from high-end establishments to casual eateries. Over the years, the BRA has gone from strength to strength, with each ceremony attracting even more attention and excitement than the last. As the awards have grown, so too has the prestige attached to them, with winners proudly displaying their BRA trophies in their restaurants and on their menus. In 2018, the BRA added a new category to its line-up, the Best New Restaurant Award. This category recognized new restaurants that were making a positive impact on the environment and promoting sustainable practices in their operations. This move reflected the growing importance of sustainability in the hospitality industry and cemented the BRA's commitment to recognizing excellence across the board. The following year, in 2019, the BRA introduced a new Best Young Chef category, allowing diners to have their say on the best young chefs in the country. This award reflected the BRA's desire to engage with its audience and give them a voice in the awards process. 2022, the British Restaurant Awards celebrated the achievements of a plethora of restaurants across the UK championing their tenacity of the entire culinary industry.  As we look to the future, the BRA remains committed to championing excellence in the UK's culinary scene and promoting the country's rich and diverse gastronomic culture.
